Setting up Crook and answers to common questions.
Setup
- On the Mac, install the plugin, then quit and reopen Herdr. The first start launches the relay and adds the
prefix+mshortcut.herdr plugin install algorist-dev/crook-herdr
- In Herdr, press
prefixthenm(usuallyctrl+b,m). A QR code appears. - Open Crook on your iPhone or iPad and scan the code. The code works once and expires after 5 minutes.
Common questions
It can't connect to my Mac
Make sure Herdr is running on the Mac. Crook tries Tailscale, then the same Wi‑Fi, then the relay. If you paired before the relay existed, scan a new QR code once so Crook gets the Mac's key.
The QR code doesn't work
Each code works once and expires after 5 minutes. Press prefix then m again for a new one.
I don't get notifications
In this version, Crook shows notifications while it is open and connected to your Mac. Allow notifications for Crook in iOS Settings. Notifications while Crook is in the background are planned for a later version.
Is there a limit on the relay?
The relay is free. To keep it fair, each Mac can use it for 120 minutes and 200 MB per day (reset at 00:00 UTC). Tailscale and the same Wi‑Fi have no limit.
How do I remove a device?
See the plugin README: devices lists paired devices and revoke <ID> removes one.
Which agents are supported?
Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and GitHub Copilot CLI, plus any terminal pane in Herdr.
